Akhilesh, Jayant Chaudhary Among 400 Booked For Covid & EC Norms Violation

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary along with 400 others have been booked for alleged violation of Covid-19 and Election Commission guidelines in Noida, news agency ANI reported.

Besides the two prominent leaders, SPโ€™s Dadri candidate Rajkumar Bhati, the partyโ€™s Gautambuddha Nagar unit chief Indira Pradhan were booked for violation during the campaign in Dadri on Thursday.

Remember, the Election Commission on Monday had extended the ban on roadshows and political rallies till February 11 in all poll-bound states.

The commission, however, granted some more relaxation to the curbs. These include increasing the upper limit of persons in physical public meetings of political parties or contesting candidates to 1,000 from the current 500 or 50 per cent of the venue capacity โ€“ whichever is lesser.

Dadri along with Noida and Jewar fall under the Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat. All three constituencies will vote in the first of the seven phases on February 10. The counting of votes takes place on March 10.

Owaisi Rejects Z Security, Demands Anti-Terror Case Over Firing

Aleesha Sam

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday rejected the Z security given by the Centre in the aftermath of an attack on his convoy in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking on the floor of the House, the Lok Sabha member wanted to draw the central governmentโ€™s attention towards the hate speech in Haridwar and Mathura, saying the ministry of home affairs should have a special cell to โ€œtackle this kind of radicalisationโ€.

โ€œWho are these people who believe in bullets and not the ballot, who have so much hate. If this is the kind of politics we are going to see, of bullets being strewn at a tollbooth, we can see the kind of radicalisation,โ€ Owaisi said.

โ€œI am not afraid of dying but I want to appeal to the government to see what was said (in Haridwar and Mathura). I donโ€™t want Z security, I want to live with freedom and not a stifled life but I want to be an A category citizen,โ€ he added.
