Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee To Hold A Joint Rally In Varanasi

Varanasi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav will be holding a rally today in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency – Varanasi. The stage will be shared by Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary. The rally will be held ahead of seventh and final phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

54 constituencies, including eight in Kashi, will be voting in the seventh phase of the UP Assembly Polls on March 7.

“West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Varanasi on Wednesday (March 2) evening. The next day (March 3), she, along with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, will address a public meeting in Airhe village of Varanasi,” SP’s Varanasi district unit chief Sanjay Mishra said.

For the first time in this elections, Samajwadi Party and its alliance partners will be addressing a rally, and seeking votes jointly. The campaigning of the opposition is considered to be the biggest this poll season, will coincide with the sixth phase of elections where voting will be held in 57 seats in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

According to the India Today sources, a Vijay Rath roadshow will be conducted today. West Bengal CM is expected to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and attend the Ganga aarti.

On February 8, had exclusively campaigned for the Samajwadi Party and had addressed a press conference in Lucknow.

The West Bengal CM’s plan of getting involved in the in the UP Polls for the SP also comes in the backdrop of TMC’s growing tension with the Congress, and her ambition of creating an opposition party front against the BJP for a united battle in the next national elections. 

Kashi Based UP BJP spokesperson Ashok Pandey said, “The TMC has no base in Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, TMC chief and west Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Varanasi will have no effect in election in Purvanchal. The rally, which SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee have to address in Varanasi (on March3), is not going to change any political equation in the region.”
