Ban On Rallies Extended Till February 11, Election Commission Grants Some Relaxation

New Delhi: The Election Commission has extended ban on rallies till February 11. As per Dainik Bhaskar reports, there is an unlock on rallies. As per the reports Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra took a decision regarding the ban on rallies after meeting the Union Health Secretary.

According to this decision, there will be a ban on election rallies till February 11. However, now 1000 people will be able to participate in election rallies. At the same time, 500 people will be allowed to sit in indoor gatherings. Whereas in the door to door campaign, 20 people will be permitted to participate. 

Earlier, in view of the increasing cases of Corona, the Election Commission had banned rallies and road shows in the five states till January 22. However, it was then increased to 31 January.

As per ANI Reports, there is some sort of relaxation given to the parties by Election Commission. The Commission has now granted relaxation for political parties to the extent that indoor meetings of a maximum of 500 persons (instead of existing 300 persons) or 50% of the capacity of the hall or the prescribed limit set by SDMA is allowed, the official statement of ECI reads.

Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are scheduled to undergo assembly polls from February 10 to March 7. The Polling will be held in the seven phases. The counting of votes will be done on March 10. Uttar Pradesh will be voting in all seven phases.
