Bengal Coal Scam: Warrant Against TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee’s Wife

New Delhi: On Saturday, a Delhi court issued bailable warrant against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Banerjee in link with a complaint field by Enforcement Directorate for declining to join the probe in a money laundering case. The case is linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.

On Ed’s plea, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria passed the order. The order was passed after the agency’s special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana told the court that the accused was not appearing before the court and probe agency. Several summons have been issued against her.

Under the provision of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, ED lodged a case. FIR was registered by the CBI that alleged a multi-crore coal pilferage scam related to the Eastern Coalfields Ltd mines in the state’s Kunustoria and Kajora areas in and around Asansol.

In the case, local coal operative Anup Majhi, alias Lala, is the prime suspect.

The Enforcement Directorate had previously claimed that Abhishek Banerjee was a beneficiary of funds obtained from this illegal trade. He denied charges against him.

Recently, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the petitions moved by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife against the summons issued to them to appear in the national capital in a money-laundering investigation linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.

Watch: Imran Khan’s “Donkey Remains Donkey” Comment On Podcast

Ashmita Chhabria

Islamabad: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is again in the headlines for his viral comments. A video of a podcast with Pakistan-based content creator Junaid Akram has gone viral. In the clips he is describing his life in the United Kingdom.

In the video he is heard saying, “I was very welcome in the UK but I never considered it my home. I was always a Pakistani first. A donkey doesn’t turn into a zebra just because you paint stripes on it. A donkey remains a donkey.”

Other content creators Muzammil Hassan and Talha were also part of the podcast.

On April 10, Imran Khan was removed as from the post of Prime Minister through a no-confidence vote moved by the Opposition in the National Assembly. He is the first Pakistani premier to be ousted by Parliament in the coup-prone country.

Opposition parties formed a coalition and appointed Shehbaz Sharif as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister.

Imran Khan repeatedly colluded with the US for bringing a regime in Pakistan. But he offered no convincing evidence, and Washington has categorically denied any foreign meddling.
