BJP Slams BMC For Backstabbing Mumbaikars Over Property Tax

Mumbai: Group leader of BJP corporators in BMC Prabhakar Shinde has criticized BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, for misleading the citizens amid property tax. “BMC Commissioner in budget said that there will not be property tax but later on during interaction with Media he said that BMC is going to increase the rate of property tax. There was no mention of such proposed increase in the property tax in the budget document.” Said Shinde further added that BJP will be protesting against this move of Shiv Sena and BMC commissioner.

Another BJP Leader who got elected to the upper house of Maharashtra State Council, Rajhans Singh said, “BMC had broke the trust of Mumbaikars by making false promise of property tax waiver and then want to increase it.” Further, he alleged that BMC has floated old schemes but just gave new names to them. One of the schemes which were announced in the budget was Balasaheb Health Scheme is not the new one. It’s the same old scheme which was started two years back as ‘Apli Chikista Yojana’ this time they have just changed the name of the scheme.

“Shiv Sena has looted BMC during COVID period. They are so scared that every day they are getting exposed to some or other scams or in corruption cases thus now they have come to know that they are losing the soil beneath them. This time BJP will defeat Shiv Sena incorporation election.”

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has announced its budget. BJP leader Prabhakar Shinde is not happy with the announcement. The BMC budget is nothing but an inflated one, having no effort to increase the income of BMC, says Shinde.

Further, he questions, how BMC is going to complete development works? By taking internal loans and using 69% funds from reserved funds? Prabhakar Shinde terms this budget as a ‘budget of false promises’. He states that this budget will lead to the bankruptcy of the corporation.

He said, “Today’s BMC budget will lead the corporation to bankruptcy soon. This budget has no vision of how to increase the earnings of BMC. Just 15 days back to help the B.E.S.T. Corporation passed the resolution in a standing committee meeting of ₹6800cr but in the budget, BMC Commissioner only spoke about ₹800cr for B.E.S.T. This is a clear attempt to destabilize the B.E.S.T. by the corporation.”

Shinde alleges that the people who are in power who want to build Urdu Bhavan have forgotten to ‘Marathi Bhasha Bhavan’, Warkari (Pilgrims) Bhavan’ and ‘Dabbawalas Bhavan’ which they promised in the past. “Today’s budget has estimated loss of taxes of ₹11,429 but is Corporation going to recover that money? Has Corporation got any assurance from the state? There is no answer one can find in today’s budget.” Said Shinde.

As per Shinde, this budget has disappointed the common Mumbaikars as provisions made in this budget are nothing but ‘Election Gimmicks’, as promises made in this budget will never get fulfilled as they are not practical.

Many projects in BMC have still not got their final shape or are or yet to complete within the given deadline. One example of this is the coastal road project. As compared to the last budget BMC only spent 40% of its allocated amount and many schemes announced last year have remained only on papers and nothing has been materialized. Shinde also brought attention to Goregaon Mulund Link Road which is still pending for 4 years and funds allocated for different sections have not been utilized to date.

Further, Shinde appealed to all the Mumbai citizens to vote against the ruling party in the upcoming BMC election, because the ruling party is fooling them.
