On Friday, BJP workers were protesting over the lapse in PM Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab earlier this week at Gandhi Chowk in Dhanbad. During their protest, a passerby allegedly used unparliamentary language against Jharkhand BJP chief Dipak Prakash and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to senior BJP leaders.

The BJP workers then thrashed the youth while the traffic police were mere spectators to the incident. The man who was thrashed was from Muslim community. He then tried to flee from the scene. The whole incident was recorded by a by stander. Since then the video has gone viral on internet.

Taking to twitter Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren wrote that action would be taken against the perpetrators. He instructed officials to probe the matter and initiate action against those found guilty. The chief minister said no one would be allowed to damage the social fabric of the state and those creating communal disharmony would not be spared.

Minutes after the chief minister issued instructions, the police swung into action. The victim’s brother, Rehan, lodged an FIR. On the basis of the viral video, the police raided the residences of two BJP workers and arrested four. Assistant Superintendent of Police Manoj Swargiary said stern action would be taken against those found guilty.

Political Parties Reaction To The Incident

The Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha condemned the incident and said that the state had already passed a bill to prevent incidents of mob lynching but such cases were still emerging.

Meanwhile, BJP leader CP Singh said the party would look into the matter and investigate whether the attackers were in fact BJP workers. If it is found that they were party workers, action will be taken against them, he said. The BJP leader also said that no senior party leader had asked the workers to thrash the victim.
