Chandigarh: Union Minister Amit Shah To Meet Singer Sidhu Moosewalaโ€™s Family

Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet singer Sidhu Moose Walaโ€™s family in Chandigarh on Saturday. BJP leaders claimed during Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawatโ€™s recent visit to their residence, they had expressed desire to meet Shah to press their demand for probe by a central agency. They are reported to have been invited for a meeting by BJP leaders.

Moosewalaโ€™s devastated father had previously seen Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in their ancestral village in the Mansa district. The cops are accused of preventing the family from entering the house. Protesters also stopped AAP MLA Gurpreet Banawali, but the AAP leader apologized on behalf of the cops.

The stateโ€™s decision to downgrade the security of over 400 VIPs โ€“ in what was pitched as a move against โ€œVIP cultureโ€ โ€“ has drawn wide criticism after the Moose Wala killing.

On Thursday, the Punjab and Haryana high court told the government to take back the order.

India Reports Over 4,000 New COVID-19 Cases, 10 Deaths In 24 Hours

New Delhi: On Friday, at least 4,041 new coronavirus infections were reported in India, bringing the overall number of COVID-19 cases to 4,31,68,585. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases has risen to 21,177.

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 5,24,651 people, with 10 people dying yesterday.

According to the government, active cases account for 0.04 percent of total infections, with a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 98.74 percent.

In the previous 24 hours, 1,668 new cases have been added to the active COVID-19 caseload.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was 0.60 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 0.56 percent.

Rising Cases In Maharashtra 

The Maharashtra health department on Friday asked district and civic authorities to ramp up coronavirus testing as the numbers of samples being examined had fallen while cases were rising.

In a letter to collectors, municipal corporations and chief executive officers, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradeep Vyas said all districts should ensure the proportion of RT-PCR tests was at least 60 per cent.

In view of rising cases, it said people should be advised to wear masks in closed public spaces like trains, buses, cinemas, auditoriums, offices, hospitals, colleges and schools.
