New Delhi: National security adviser Ajit Doval emphasised the importance of complete disengagement on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) during his conversation with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, according to people familiar with the matter. This will allow the bilateral relationship to run its natural course. Restoring peace and tranquilly, Doval stated, will assist establish mutual trust and create an enabling climate for advancement in relations, according to the people listed above.
The Chinese Foreign Minister arrived in Delhi last evening. This is the first visit by a senior Chinese minister and the highest-level talks between India and China since the military standoff in Ladakh began two years ago.
Wang Yi reached Mr Doval’s office for talks at around 10 am and discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere, sources told NDTV.The need for early and total disengagement in remaining areas in Ladakh, as well as the removal of hurdles to let the bilateral relationship to follow its natural course, were among the significant themes emphasised.
Because Mr Wang and Mr Doval serve as Special Representatives for border talks between the two countries, the boundary issue appeared heavily in their conversation.
The two officials both agreed that the current situation is not in their best interests. They agreed that restoring peace and serenity would aid in the development of mutual trust and create an environment conducive to advancement in relations.
They also addressed the importance of maintaining positive diplomatic and military relations. They agreed that on-the-ground efforts should not be inconsistent with the ethos of equality and mutual security.
The Chinese delegation also invited NSA Ajit Doval to visit China to take forward the mandate of Special Representatives. To this, Mr Doval responded positively and stated that he could visit after immediate issues are resolved successfully between the two sides.
Soon after the meeting, Wang went to meet Jaishankar for wide-ranging talks at Hyderabad House. The Chinese foreign minister is in Delhi for the highest-level meeting yet after the ties were strained following the military standoff at LAC nearly two years ago.
