Kakinada: Rain lashed sections of Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district Thursday morning as storm Asani approached the Andhra coastline.
Cyclone Asani is expected to hit the Andhra coast on Wednesday morning, according to Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena.
“The cyclonic storm Asani is moving from West Central Bay of Bengal towards North Andhra coast and as per estimation, the cyclone is likely to reach Kakinada of Andhra coast tomorrow morning,” Mr Jena had told news agency ANI.
In the aftermath of cyclone Asani, another senior Indian Meteorological Department or IMD official told ANI that a severe to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Telangana’s Nalgonda, Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mulugu districts.
IMD officials had said that cyclone Asani has changed its direction and is going to touch the nearby Kakinada coast. After touching the Kakinada coast, it will come again to sea between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings have been issued along with the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana’s Nalgonda, Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mulugu districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall,” Mr Nagaratna, Head, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, had told ANI.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in a few spots in Telangana due to cyclone Asani, according to weather office authorities.
“Heavy to very heavy rains warnings have been issued along with coastal Andhra Pradesh districts. Telangana is likely to have the impact of the cyclonic storm in adjoining districts. Nalgonda, Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mulugu are likely to receive light to moderate rains. At times heavy rains are expected,” Mr Nagaratna had said.
Light to moderate rainfall are expected in Telangana’s southern districts, according to officials. They predicted that light rainfall would fall in Hyderabad over the next 24 hours, with cloudy conditions persisting for the next 48 hours.
