New Delhi: Former Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has lost his Patiala Urban constituency. The two time minister had lost to his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rival Ajit Pal Singh Kohli.
In the previous election in 2017, his victory margin had been 49 per cent.
Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP is heading for a landslide win in Punjab, with the ruling Congress far behind.
Amarinder Singh floated his own party, the Punjab Lok Congress, after a bitter parting from the Congress following his sacking as Chief Minister in September.
Mr Singh, or “Captain”, contested the election in an alliance with the BJP.
Counting of votes for 117 assembly seats in Punjab began on Thursday amid tight security arrangements.
Exit polls had predicted a big victory for Arvind Kejriwal’s party – which has established its presence in the state – pushing the Congress to the number 2 position in the 117-member assembly.
