Grand Flypast Is The Highlight, Of This 73rd Republic Day

New Delhi: India is celebrating it’s 73rd Republic Day today. The event starts with the annual parade at Delhi’s Rajpath showcasing its military prowess and cultural pageantry. A flypast by 75 aircraft and helicopters is the highlight of this year’s parade.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation by tweeting, “Wishing you all a happy Republic Day.” 

This year’s celebrations are significant as it is the 75th Anniversary of country’s Independence being observed as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ across the country.

The programme of The National Cadet Corps’ ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman’ will be launched in this years celebration. 

Some 480 dancers selected through a nationwide dance competition will perform in the parade.

The ones who are double vaccinated adults and single vaccinated children aged 15 and above will be permitted to attend the parade at the Rajpat. Amid the pandemic no foreign contingent this year. 

The parade started half-an-hour later than the usual for better visibility. Ahead of the event, PM Modi paid tribute to India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.

The parade started after the tricolour was unfurled with a 21-gun salute. The winners of the country’s highest gallantry awards, Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra, led the contingents in saluting the President, the Supreme Commander of armed forces.

President Kovind posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra, the country’s highest peacetime gallantry award, to Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram, who was killed fighting terrorists in Kashmir. The officer’s wife received the award on his behalf.

People have been asked to register on the MyGov portal to watch the live event online. They will also be able to vote for the best marching contingent and tableau in the popular choice category.

For the ‘Beating Retreat’ ceremony at Vijay Chowk on January 29, a drone show with 1,000 indigenously manufactured drones has been planned.
