Telangana: According to the Hyderabad police, one individual was nabbed in the gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl inside a car last week in Hyderabad. Three of the five people identified are minors, according to the report.
The crime in the heart of Telangana’s capital, which allegedly involved politicians’ children and grandchildren driving fancy cars, has sparked outrage. The grandchild of the home minister, according to the police, is not implicated.
“Victim couldn’t reveal anything about culprits. She only revealed one name and special teams were immediately formed to arrest them. CCTV footage recovered. We’ve identified five culprits as per CCTV footage and as per the statement of the victim,” said police officer Joel Davis.
Security footage showed the girl standing outside the pub where she had met the alleged attackers with them. The lads had volunteered to drop her off at her house. Instead, she was assaulted inside a parked car in one of the city’s posh neighbourhoods. Her assailants alternated rapping her while others stood guard outside the car.
A huge protest at a police station last evening saw shouting BJP workers being carried away by policemen.
Based on the girl’s father’s accusation, the police initially filed a case of “outraging modesty.” Later, it was modified to a rape case.
Telangana Information Technology Minister KT Rama Rao has instructed state Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, the DGP, and the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner to take swift and stern action in the rape case, and not to “spare anyone implicated irrespective of their positions or affiliations.”
K Kavitha, the leader of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, expressed faith in the Telangana police and voiced concern for the protection of women.
