Lucknow: At Congress office in Lucknow, ink was allegedly thrown on Jawaharlal Nehru student Kanhaiya Kumar. Congress leaders had reached Lucknow on Tuesday to participate in the campaign of Lucknow Central candidate Sadaf Zafar.
In that campaign ink was allegedly thrown on his face. Congress leaders claimed that it was not ink but a kind of acid which was thrown at Kumar.
“The accused tried to throw acid at Kanhaiya Kumar but failed to do so. However, some drops fell on 3-4 youth standing nearby,” leaders said.
Congress has also made Kanhaiya Kumar a star campaigner in the UP elections. Recently he had joined Congress.
The party workers have caught the accused, but have not revealed any details about the accused.
Kumar had reached there to participate in door-to-door campaigning for seeking votes for Congress candidates in Lucknow.
He said that under the leadership of party’s general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi the State Assembly Elections will be big one, this time.
“Since the incident of Hathras, Unnao and Lakhimpur Kheri took place, Congress has been on the streets seeking justice. Those who did not even build the country are selling the country. Congress has built India, so it is saving the country from such people,” Kumar said.
The same incident was witnessed by Kumar earlier as well. In the year 2018, a man had allegedly thrown ink at Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and Kumar in Gwalior. The two were addressing a seminar at chamber of bhawan as part of their “Samvidhan Bachao” protest.
Mukesh Pal of the Hindu Sena allegedly threw ink at both when they were about to address the seminar, a senior police official had said.
Poling will be held in seven phases. Uttar Pradesh will be voting in all seven phases. The Assembly Polls will be starting from February 10 and will end on March 7.
