IPS Rajneesh Seth The New DGP Of Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Friday appointed IPS officer Rajneesh Seth as the new Director General of Police of Maharashtra according to news agency ANI. Mr Seth is a 1988 batch police officer. Prior to his appointment as the state DGP, he was the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Earlier on April 2021, IPS officer Sanjay Pandey was holding the additional charge of DGP.

Notably, after the Bombay High Court recently reprimanded the state government for the “bias” of acting DGP Sanjay Pandey, the government had started the process of appointment of the state DGP and the post of DGP by Monday, February 21. Thereby, taking the decisions accordingly.

The appointment of Director General in the state is done through a process. The names of 10 senior officers of the state were sent to UPSC. And out of it 3 names are recommended by UPSC. One of these three is appointed to the post of DGP. Hemant Nagrale, K. Venkatesham, Rajneesh Seth were recommended in these three names.
