Karnataka Hijab Row: Swara Bhasker Calls Mob Abusing Muslim Girl ‘Wolves’

Udupi: Karnataka Hijab Row has now become a massive controversy. A video of a girl being stopped by a saffron scarf-clad mob, and being accosted by a mob chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ has surfaced on the internet. Sharing the video actor Swara Bhasker calls the mob wolves. 

In the video it can be seen that a girl at a college is being accosted by a mob chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ The men in the mob advanced and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in front of the girl. The girl, in turn, chanted loudly ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’, before turning back in the face of the opposition of the mob.

Speaking with media the girl said that people were not letting her in. She said, “I was going to the college when some people accosted me and said that I can enter the premises only after removing the burqa. They were not letting me in.”

Earlier, a video had surfaced that showed a boy at a college in Shimoga climbing up a pole and hoisting a saffron flag. In the video the student is seen allegedly climbing up the pole and changing the national flag with a saffron flag. Students were cheering below as the flag is hoisted. A majority of the students who had gathered there were waving saffron flags or stoles.

The court hearing the matter has more intensified the situation. 

Amid the growing protests over the hijab row, former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah urged the BJP government in the state to declare a holiday in all the schools and colleges and to conduct online classes.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said: “The situation in some Karnataka educational institutions has gone so out of hand that in one case the National flag was replaced by a saffron flag. I think the affected institutions should be closed for a week to restore law and order. Teaching can continue online.”
