Bengaluru: In a late-night operation, the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprehended principal accused Divya Hagaragi, Archana, and three others in Pune, Maharashtra. The arrests were made in relation to the suspected Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) scandal in Karnataka, which has sparked outrage.

Divya Hagaragi, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the former president of Kalaburagi’s BJP women’s branch, was apprehended in a Pune hideout. Rajesh, her husband, was recently detained.

As of date, 18 persons have been detained in connection with the case by Karnataka CID slueths. The Kalaburagi police station’s Chowk police station has received a FIR.

Jnana Jyoti school in Kalaburagi is administered by Divya Hagaragi and her husband Rajesh. The school was allegedly utilised as a testing centre for Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) exams. The institution apparently lacked the necessary amenities for an exam centre.

The scam was discovered after a contestant named Veeresh received 7th place and 121 points despite only answering 21 out of 130 questions.

According to police sources, more incidences of exam misconduct could have occurred at the exam centre because the institution lacked functioning CCTV cameras.

The test, which was held in October 2021 to fill 545 empty PSI positions in Karnataka, attracted 54,041 participants.
