Fugitive gangster Ejaz Lakdawala arrested by Mumbai police

Ejaz Lakdawala has 27 cases registered against him and has been remanded to police custody till January 21

 

MUMBAI| On Wednesday Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala arrested by Mumbai police in Patna. The Mumbai Police Anti-extortion Cell (AEC) arrested Lakdawala who was on run for the last 20 years.

Ejaz Lakdawala has 27 cases registered against him and has been remanded to police custody till January 21.

Lakdawala was wanted in many cases such as extortion, attempt to kill and rioting. The gangster was arrested at 10:30 pm on Wednesday in Patna. Lakdawala worked for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim under Chota Rajan before forming his own gang, said police.

Earlier Lakdawala daughter Soniya Shaikh, who changed name after marriage, was arrested on Tuesday by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai crime branch in the second case of extortion.

According to AEC officials, she was involved in threatening and demanding extortion from a Bandra based realtor on the behest of her father Ejaz Lakdawala. Soniya was trying to flee the country on December 28.

Joint Commissioner of Police Crime Santosh Rastogi said, “His daughter was in our custody. She gave a lot of information to us. Our sources also told us about his arrival in Patna, he was arrested in Jattanpur police station limits”.

“He has been arrested for threatening and demanding extortion from a Bandra-based builder,” Santosh Rastogi added.
