Mumbai: On Wednesday the BJP suffered a major setback in Zilla Parishad polls in Nagpur, the home district of Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari, meanwhile it was a mixed bag for the saffron party and other main parties in local polls in other districts of Maharashtra.
The BJP losing the Nagpur Zilla Parishad is the beginning of its defeat from the Vidarbha region, Maharashtra minister, and state NCP chief Jayant Patil said on Wednesday.
There is a major setback to the BJP, Congress bagged 30 of the 58 seats in Nagpur Zilla Parishad in the pocket district of Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis.
“The BJP losing the Nagpur Zilla Parishad election which is the beginning of its defeat everywhere in Vidarbha,” Patil said.
“The BJP faced defeats where it is in power for a long time and has strong leaders. The people of Nagpur have expressed their disappointment with Devendra Fadnavis and BJP. Maharashtra will take a note of it,” Patil added.
NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapas said the BJP’s defeat is a gesture to end the “fascist politics”
“The defeat of BJP in the RSS homeland of Nagpur it gestures the end of fascist politics and dawn of development. I thank the voters of Nagpur for showing BJP its place,” Tapas said.
