Soni Razdan tweeted in Afzal’s defense, calling him a scapegoat. She also wrote, “This is a travesty of justice. Who is going to bring back a person from the dead if he is innocent? This is the reason the death sentence is not to be used lightly. And so there also needs to be a solid investigation into why Afzal Guru was made the scapegoat.”

Soni Razdan’s remarks led to an outrage. She later tweeted clarifying her remarks. She wrote, “Nobody is saying he is innocent. But if he was tortured and then ordered by his torturer to do what he did isn’t that what needed to be fully probed? Why did nobody take his allegations about Davinder Singh seriously? That’s the travesty.”

In the letter, Afzal Guru had accused Davinder Singh used to torture him. He wrote that Davinder Singh introduced him to Mohammed, one of the terrorists indulged in the attack, and tasked him with the “small job” of ferrying Mohammed to the national capital and getting him a rented accommodation in the city.
