Amidst CAA protests, I&B Ministry asks TV channels not to show content “inciting violence”

The new I&B Ministry advisory said that despite the Government’s notice earlier, some TV channels were found not adhering to it.

 

New Delhi| The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry headed by Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday issued another advisory to TV News Channels. The advisory asked TV channels to abstain from showing any content that can incite violence. The I&B advisory comes at a time when the protests against CAA-NRC are spreading across India. In several parts of UP, Gujrat and even in National Capital Delhi the protest took a violent turn. Section 144 has been imposed in parts of Delhi, UP and Karnataka following the violence.

The new I&B Ministry advisory said that despite the Government’s notice earlier, some TV channels were found not adhering to it. It said that some of the contents aired by the channels do not appear to be in the spirit of the programme code.

“It is accordingly reiterated that all TV channels may abstain from showing any content which

a. Is likely to incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitudes

b. Contains anything affecting the integrity of the nation

c. Criticizes, Maligns or slanders any individual in person or certain groups, segments of the social, public and moral life of the country,” the advisory said.

It also said that the strict compliance of the above-mentioned points must be practised.
