Azad Receives a Warm Welcome At Shaheen Bagh

Chandrashekhar Azad, the Bhim Army Chief and one of the prime faces of pro-democracy protests across the country, was visiting the Shaheen Bagh for the first time after his release from the jail.

Delhi| Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad reached Shaheen Bagh on Wednesday evening where women are protesting against the CAA and NRC for more than a month now. While addressing the large gathering that welcomed him with a heartwarming display of solidarity, he said, “In the next 10 days, there will be 5,000 more protest sites like Shaheen Bagh across the country.” Azad was arrested last month when he went to read the preamble of the constitution on Jama Masjid causing panic for the Delhi Police in the light of section 144.

While talking to his admirers gathered in large numbers, Azad said that the new citizenship act is a ‘black law’ that is dividing people of this country on religious lines.

“I congratulate those who have participated in this protest. This is not just a political agitation. We have to save the constitution and unity of this country,” Azad said while talking to the women who are on indefinite sit-in from 38 days.

Azad also applauded the protestors, mentioning that even the record-breaking cold hasn’t been able to break the determination of the women.

Protestors were singing Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ‘Hum Dekhenge’ before Azad arrived. He was welcomed with loud cheers and the protestors were charged at his arrival.

Azad, who was holding the constitution, said, “I promise you that in next coming days, there will be 5000 Shaheen Baghs across the country.”

He visited Shaheen Bagh after the Delhi Court modified his order of release. He was allowed to visit Delhi for medical purposes as well as the upcoming elections. Although, he has been ordered to report every Saturday to a police station In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh for four weeks.
