Ahmedabad| The Gujrat govt led by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been given clean chit in the 2002 Gujrat Riots case. The Nanavati Commission report was presented in Gujrat Assembly today. The report notes that the post-Godhra train burning riots were not organized.
Five years ago in 2014, the commission headed by Retired Justices G T Nanavati and Akshay Mehta had presented their report on the 2002 riots to the then Gujrat CM-Anandiben Patel. On Wednesday, the report was tabled in Gujrat Assembly by the Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja.

The riots were sparked after two coaches of the Sabarmati Express train were burnt near Godhra railway station. In the train burning, 59 ‘karsevaks’ were killed. In the riots that followed, 1000 people were killed, majorly from Minority Communities as per official figures.
