“No One Will Go To Bed Empty Stomach In India If..”: Industrialist Gautam Adani

New Delhi: Gautam Adani, whose company owns a variety of industries ranging from airports to ports and electricity generation to distribution, has stated that if the country grows to a $30-trillion economy by 2050, it may also be home to a country where no one goes to bed hungry.

“We are around 10,000 days away from year 2050. Over this period, I anticipate we’ll add about $25 trillion to our economy. This translates to an addition of $2.5 billion to the GDP every day. I also anticipate that over this period, we’ll have eradicated all forms of poverty,” Mr Adani told the India Economic Conclave organised by Times Network  on Thursday.

Mr Adani, who has increased his wealth by $49 billion to $81 billion in 2021, surpassing the world’s two wealthiest people, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, also expressed hope that, despite the staggering numbers and optimism, he believes we as a nation are capable of accomplishing this in just 10,000 days.

If the economy continues to develop at its current rate, he believes the stock markets will gain nearly $40 trillion in market value over the next 10,000 days, or $4 billion every day until 2050.

Mr Adani concluded that improving the lives of 1.4 billion people may feel like a marathon in the short term, but it is a sprint in the long run.

The World Bank in its latest report on the poverty in the country said India saw a massive 12.3 percentage points decline in extreme poverty between 2011 and 2019-from from 22.5 per cent in 2011 to 10.2 per cent in 2019.
