Officer Sanjay Pandey Appointed As Mumbai Police Commissioner

Mumbai: Sanjay Pandey has been appointed as Mumbai Police Commissioner. The former Director-General of Police is set to replace Hemant Nagarale, who is the present Commissioner of Police in Mumbai. Hemant Nagarale has been transferred from the post of Commissioner and has been handed over the responsibility of Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC). Recently, Rajneesh Sheth was appointed as the Director General of Maharashtra Police. After this, Sanjay Pandey has been given the responsibility of the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner. Mr. Pandey is in Chandigarh right now, HW News has learnt.

Sanjay Pandey is a 1986 batch IPS officer. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh was given the charge. After Param Bir Singh, the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner was handed over to Hemant Nagarale.

Earlier, Sanjay Pandey was given a temporary post of Director General of Police. Pandey is a senior IPS officer. Pandey was appointed as the state’s director-general of police in April 2021. In the last few days, Rajneesh Sheth has been appointed as the Director-General of Police of Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra home department on Monday issued a government resolution (GR) stating that IPS officer Sanjay Pandey, former acting Director General of Police has been transferred to the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner.

The GR also stated that Pandey should immediately take charge of Mumbai CP, while the current Mumbai CP Hemant Nagrale has been transferred to Managing Director of Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC).

The decision was taken after the Bombay High Court reprimanded the state government for favoring Pandey for the post.
