Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again, Delhi Rates Up By ₹ 8 In 13 days

New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices were on Sunday again hiked by 80 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in less then two weeks to ₹ 8 per litre.

Petrol in Delhi will now cost ₹ 103.41 per litre as against ₹ 102.61 previously, while diesel rates have gone up from ₹ 93.87 per litre to ₹ 94.67, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending upon the incidence of local taxation.

This is the 11th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22.

In all, petrol prices have gone up by ₹ 8 per litre.

“Inflation Math Under BJP Rule”: Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over Petrol Price Hike

Lucknow: If petrol price keeps rising by 80 paise a day, it would be costing ₹ 275 a litre by November or December assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday.

Mr Yadav made the remark, terming his calculation of probable future prices of petrol as “the mathematics of inflation under the BJP rule”.

Mr Yadav made his remarks in a tweet in Hindi without actually naming the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where the assembly elections are likely to be held in November or December this year.

“People are saying if the petrol price keeps rising by 80 paise a day or ₹ 24 a month at its present rate, it would rise by ₹ 175 in the next seven months by November or December when next elections are likely,” Mr Yadav said in his tweet.

“It implies that the petrol selling at ₹ 100 a litre now would be costing ₹ 275 a litre then,” he said.

“This is the mathematics of inflation under the BJP rule,” he added.
