Police Book Mahant Who Publicly Threatened Muslim Women Of Kidnapping, Rape

UP’s Sitapur police, six days after a Hindu priest’s hate speech outside a mosque, have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The priest, in his speech now viral on social media, had threatened to kidnap and rape Muslim women.

After visuals of the speech sparked outrage and questions on why no action had been taken so far, Sitapur police swung into action and wrote on twitter: “A case has been registered against the concerned at police station Khairabad under appropriate sections as per rules. On the basis of available evidence, necessary legal action is being ensured in advance as per rules.”

The video of hate speech had gone viral, in which a man clad in saffron robes, reportedly the local mahant in a small town Khairabad — about 100 km from Lucknow –could be seen addressing a gathering from inside a jeep. A man in a police uniform can also be seen in the background.

The priest, speaking on a microphone, appears to make communal and provocative remarks as the crowd cheers him with shouts of “Jai Shri Ram”.

He then goes on to claim a plot to kill him for which, he says, a sum of ₹ 28 lakh has been collected.

The saffron-clad man then purportedly says that if a Muslim harasses any girl in the area, he would kidnap Muslim women and publicly rape them. the crowd cheers loudly as the priest made the vile threat.
