Mumbai: A shocking incident has come in light from Umerkhad district in Maharashtra. On last Sunday woman and her new born child lost their lives due to potholes and poor road condition. The incident happened in Bandi village when 30 year old Natasha Thoke started was in labour pains and her family decided to take her to nearest govt health Centre. Family called for auto riskhaw to go to hospital. But due to poor condition of road between Bandi to Bitergaon town, Natasha delivered her baby in auto itself. But due to the pathetic condition of roads she and her new born baby couldn’t tolerate the vibrations and shocks of the road and both died in auto when they were just 2km away from nearest primary health care Centre.
Locals in this area are really angry over the local authorities. In the past many times they had requested them to repair the same road, many protest had also happened for same purpose. Many request letters were sent to Maharashtra Govt’s PUblic Works Department to repair the same road but no response was given to the demands. And now 30 year old Natasha and her new born baby lost their lives due to the same road. Local villagers are asking the question that does this Govt want to more lives to be ended on this road then they will wake up?
Due to the bad road condition it becomes very difficult and painful for people to reach or have access of primary health care Centre in Umerkehd. Patients don’t get medical treatment on time as due to the potholes and bad roads they can’t reach on time to hospital or medical care centre. After sunday’s incident Locals are of the opinion that if condition of the roads were better Natasha and her baby could have been saved as they would have got medical treatment in time.
