Salman Khan Challenges Summons Issued Against Him, Over Journalist’s Complaint

Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan has approached the Bombay High Court challenging the summons issued to him by a lower court in connection with misbehaving with a journalist in 2019.

Salman Khan’s plea will be heard by a single bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere today.

A civil court had last month issued a process (summons) to Salman Khan and his bodyguard Nawaz Shaikh and directed them to appear before it on April 5.

Salman Khan in his plea has sought to repel the lower court order issuing the process (summons) should be stayed by the way of interim relief.

Journalist Ashok Pandey had filed a private complaint before the magistrate’s court seeking criminal action to be initiated against Salman Khan and Nawaz Shaikh.

The journalist has claimed that in April 2019, he and a cameraperson tried to film Salman Khan, who was cycling. The journalist said that he had taken permission from his bodyguard to film Salman Khan, but after Salman noticed and objected, he was manhandled by the bodyguards and his phone was snatched by Salman Khan.

On March 23, a magistrate court had issued summons to actor Salman Khan and his bodyguard Nawaz Shaikh, on a complaint filed by a journalist claiming that he was assaulted in 2019. Metropolitan Magistrate RR Khan had noted that a police report submitted in the matter stated that offenses under Indian Penal Code Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) are made out against the accused persons.

The DN Nagar Police was directed to conduct an inquiry and submit a report by the magistrate’s court.

After going through the report, the court stated that there were sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused persons.
