Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry, led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s position on respect for faith and religions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its rejection of any violation of Islamic symbols and symbols of all religions and important figures.

Saudi Arabia welcomed BJP decision to suspend Nupur Sharma

The strong statement from Saudi Arabia came after Qatar, Kuwait and Iran called on Indian ambassadors in their respective countries to officially register their protest against the derogatory remarks used by Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate. Earlier there were reports of removal of Indian products in protest against derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad by a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at supermarkets in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain.

BJP Suspended Nupur Sharma

BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a televised debate on the Gyanvapi Mosque issue had allegedly made some offensive remarks on Prophet Mohammed. This hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community causing an uproar. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday suspended national spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The saffron party also suspended Delhi BJP’s media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal. The central disciplinary committee of the BJP, in suspension letter, wrote: “You have expressed views contrary to the party’s position on various matters… Pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities with immediate effect.”

Earlier, Nupur Sharma had claimed that she was receiving Rape and Death threats after the video clip of her statement from the debate was posted on Twitter by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair. Cases were filed in Maharashtra and Hyderabad against Nupur Sharma.
