Shatrughan Sinha, Babul Supriyo To Be TMC’s Candidates For Bypolls: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: Taking to Twitter, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Former Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha will be candidate for TMC in Lok Sabha by-election. He will be contesting from the Asansol constituency. She also announced that Former Union Minister Babul Supriyo will be TMC candidate in Vidhan Sabha by-election. He will be contesting from Ballygunge.

Mamata Tweeted, “Happy to announce on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress that Sri Shatrughan Sinha, former Union Minister and famed actor, will be our candidate in Loksabha by-election from Asansol.”

Mamata Banerjee tweeted, “Sri Babul Supriyo, former union minister and noted singer, will be our candidate in Vidhansabha by- election from Ballygunge. Jai Hind, Jai Bangla, Jai Ma- Mati- Manush!”

Earlier, Shatrughan Sinha was member of the Indian National Congress Party, amid he didn’t got a seat for the 2019 Indian general elections by the Bharatiya Janata Party. He became member of INC in presence of Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala.

In the year 2014, Babul Suoriyo had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2014 Indian general election, he was nominated by the party as their candidate for Asansol, West Bengal. He had won by defeating Dola Sen. He was induced in BJP as the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Urban Development; and Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation on 9 November 2014, and became the youngest minister.

On 31 July 2021, Babul Supriyo announced on social media that he has decided to quit politics and will be resigning as a Lok Sabha MP. However days later he decided to complete his tenure as MP. He then edited his Facebook post deleting the “won’t join any party” remark raising speculations. On 18 September 2021 he joined All India Trinamool Congress in presence of Abhishek Banerjee.
