The Kashmir Files: FIR Against Vivek Agnihotri Over ‘Bhopali’ Remark

Mumbai: A complaint has been filed against Vivek Agnihotri, the director of The Kashmir Files, after he said in an interview that Bhopalis are often assumed to be homosexual.

The complaint was filed at Versova police station in Mumbai by a 27-year-old PR manager named Rohit Pandey. The complainant hails from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and has sought the registration of an urgent FIR in the matter.

The Controversial Remark

In an interview, Vivek Agnihotri said people often assume ‘Bhopalis’ to be homosexuals because of ‘their nawabi desires’.

The Kashmir Files director came under fire for his comment after the clip of the interview went viral. He said in the interview, “I am from Bhopal, but I do not call myself a Bhopali because that carries a certain connotation. If someone calls himself a Bhopali, it generally means that person is a homosexual.. someone with ‘nawabi ‘fantasies.

The Kashmir Files

Vivek Agnihotri has been in the headlines since the release of his film, The Kashmir Files, earlier this month.

Apart from being hotly debated, the film has done exceedingly well at the box office.

The Kashmir Files is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 during the Kashmir insurgency.
