New Delhi: Brinda Karat, the leader of the Marxist Communist Party, along with other activists stood in front of the bulldozer to prevent it from demolishing the homes of the claimed victims of violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri neighborhood. “The bulldozer has to pass over me,” she said. We will not allow poor people’s homes and shops to be demolished in this manner.” she objected vehemently in front of the bulldozer.
Brinda Karat arrived at the spot (violence-hit Jahangirpuri) with a physical copy of the order and urged the police and civic staff to stop the demolition instantly. Ms. Karat later told reporters, “I am here to stop the anti-encroachment drive. Officers are disobeying the SC order. I am here to make sure that the court’s order is obeyed.”
A wall and a gate of the mosque was razed and some shops nearby were pulled down amid rising tension.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party leader Amanatullah Khan claimed that “Amit Shah and the BJP want to destabilize Delhi’s peaceful atmosphere, currently employing MCD to run bulldozers in Jahangirpuri in the pretext of encroachment and torment a particular group.” There has been a new decree issued. If it is not regulated in a timely manner, the country will be drowned by this cheap politics!

Earlier, a petition was been filed in the Supreme Court to stop demolition in Jahangirpuri. Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave had said, “Its Completely unauthorised unconstitutional demolition ordered in Jahangirpuri area.”
“Something serious requires your immediate intervention. This is about a completely unconstitutional and illegal demolition that has been ordered in the Jahangirpuri area, where riots took place last week. No notice has been served. There is a provision for appeal under the Municipal Corporation Act. We have filed a provisional application(before SC). It was supposed to start at 2 PM but they started the demolition today morning at 9 AM knowing that we will mention”, Dave submitted.
“Maintain status quo. List before appropriate bench tomorrow”, the CJI ordered.
The court’s order came even as nine bulldozers had rolled into the area and started razing structures as per orders of the BJP-controlled North Delhi Municipal Corporation amid heavy police presence to prevent any law and order situation.
Raja Iqbal Singh, mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, has termed it a “routine exercise”, reported news agency PTI. However, the timing of the drive, especially since it comes right after the BJP’s chief letter, has prompted questions about the political motives behind the drive.
According to PTI, the civic authority wanted at least 400 police officers for the two-day anti-encroachment action that began today. 25 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence. Five of them have been charged under the National Security Act, which allows detention up to a year without any charge.
Although now, Delhi demolition drive has Stopped and that Supreme Court said order must reach officials
