Watch: Massive Protests Erupt After Killing Of Kashmiri Pandit, Police Resort To Lathicharge, Teargas

Srinagar: On Friday, government employees and Kashmiri Pandit families protested the LG administration in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, over the targeted assassination of Rahul Bhat.

Terrorists shot and killed Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit government official, inside the Tehsil office in Chadoora town on Thursday. In 2010-11, he was hired as a clerk under the special employment package for migrants.

As conflicts erupted between officials and protestors on Friday, a video supposedly filmed at the demonstration location showed police resorting to lathicharge. During a protest march over the recent killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the Union Territory, police fired tear gas shells at protesters to keep them from approaching the Airport Road in Budgam.

Amit, a Kashmiri Pandit, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “LG administration should provide us security, else we will resort to mass resignation from our respective posts.”

Meanwhile, Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, said she wants to visit Budgam to express her sympathy with Kashmiri pandits. She couldn’t, though, because she was placed under house arrest.

“Have been put under house arrest as the fact that Kashmiri Muslims and pandits empathise with each other’s pain doesn’t fit into their vicious communal narrative,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.

Terrorists opened fire on Rahul Bhat, a revenue department official in Budgam, on Thursday, injuring him severely. He was transported to a Srinagar hospital, where he died a short time later. The ‘Kashmir Tigers’ terror group claimed credit for the incident.
