New Delhi: On Tuesday, May 31, a professor from Shri Varshney Campus in Aligarh was sent on a one-month leave due to a controversy surrounding the offering of namaz inside college grounds.
Members of the BJP’s youth wing, as well as other Hindu organizations, petitioned the police and demanded that the faculty member be prosecuted.
Leaders of these groups also lodged complaints at the local police stations of Gandhi Park and Quarsi.
Meanwhile, many students and members of Hindu organizations have threatened to recite the Hanuman Chalisa in retribution if the college does not take legal action.
Amit Goswami, district vice president of the BJP’s youth wing, claimed.
“This is not a stray incident but part of a well-planned conspiracy to defame the present BJP government in the state,” Goswami added.
Principal Of the College Sets Up Inquiry Committee, Report Awaited
Following the controversy, the college’s principal, Professor Arun Kumar Gupta, formed an inquiry committee to look into the situation. The panel’s report is expected soon.
“Further action would be done only after the report is received,” Gupta said, adding that religious activities should not be authorized in educational institutions.
