“Yoga For Humanity To Be Theme For 8th Yoga Day”: PM Modi In Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi: In the  year’s 5th edition of PM Modi’s radio broadcast “Mann Ki Baat,”  PM Modi reminded the listeners about the upcoming 8th anniversary of the “International Yoga Day,” which is collaborated with the 75th Independence Day celebration (“Amrit Mahotsav”),

He said “Next month, on June 21, we are going to celebrate 8th International Yoga Day. This time the theme of Yoga Day is – Yoga for Humanity. I would urge all of you to celebrate Yoga Day with great enthusiasm. Indian missions in different countries will organise yoga programs at sunrise according to the local time there. Keeping in mind the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’, International Yoga Day will also be organised at 75 major places across the country”.

He also hailed the Startup ecosystems of the country as the number of unicorns in the country touched the three-figure mark. He said “On the 5th of this month (May), the number of Unicorns in India reached the 100 mark. Once Unicorn means a start-up of at least Rs 7,500 crore turnover. The total valuation of these Unicorns is $330 billion, which is over Rs 25 lakh crore. Of these, 44 unicorns were formed only last year while 14 unicorns were formed in the last 3-4 months. This means that even during the global pandemic, our start-ups continued to create wealth and value. The world of start-ups reflects the spirit of new India”.

He further highlighted women self-help groups in Thanjavur opening up kiosks and stores, “Women’s Self-Help Groups stores and kiosks are also opening up in Thanjavur. Because of this, the lives of many poor families have changed. With the help of such kiosks and stores, women are now able to sell their products directly to customers”. he said.

Amid language rift in the country,he also expressed his views on Linguistic Diversity .”We have in our country a rich treasure of different languages, scripts and dialects. This diversity strengthens us as a nation and keeps us united. Many people in our country are working towards strengthening linguistic diversity. One such person is Sripati Tudu from West Bengal, who has translated the Constitution of India in ‘Ol Chiki’ script for the Santhali community”,he said

He later expressed concern over pilgrims littering the surroundings of Char Dhams, he said “Every day, thousands of devotees are reaching Char Dham, especially Kedarnath. Some devotees are saddened by the litter spread by some pilgrims. It is not right that we go on a holy pilgrimage and find heaps of litter there. Some pilgrims are cleaning nearby areas during their stay during their Yatra. Many organisations and NGOs are also working there in partnership with the team of Swachh Bharat Mission.”

Further adding he appealed to the listeners, to plant trees on world environment day and make efforts to maintain cleanliness  “June 5 will be celebrated as World Environment Day. We should run positive campaigns regarding the environment in places around us and this work should be done continuously. This time we must try to reconnect and make efforts for cleanliness and tree plantation”,he said.

Mann ki Baat airs on All India Radio and Doordarshan every last Sundayof the month starting 11:00 am onwards.
