As per an Indian Express report, state-run Mahanagar Telecom Nagam Limited has sought financial assistance worth around Rs 1000 crore from the Centre to meet its debt liabilities. In the financial year 2023-24. MTNL’s debts rose to ₹25,795 crore from ₹23,500 crore a year back. Reportedly, the government is considering handing over MTNL’s operations to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) instead of merging the two entities.
