Government Of Karnataka Hikes Birth Death Certificate Rates

The birth and death certificate will cost 10 times more than earlier as the government of Karnataka hiked the cost of the certificate. A birth certificate, which used to cost Rs 5, now costs Rs 50, and the death certificate, which was Rs 2, is now Rs 20.

The tenfold increase was discovered through documents accessed by India Today. As per norm, both birth and death certificates are free for the first 21 days from the time of birth and death. However, from now, between 21 and 30 days, certificates are priced at Rs 20, which was earlier Rs 5. The charges for five birth certificates, which were Rs 25, will be Rs 250.
