The ex-Japan PM was shot twice while he was giving a speech in the southern city of Nara on Friday morning.

Former Japan PM Shinzo Abe passed away, hours after he was shot at.

The ex-Japan PM was shot twice while he was giving a speech in the southern city of Nara on Friday morning.

He immediately collapsed and was rushed to the nearest hospital. Pictures taken at the scene showed him bleeding.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted expressed condolences via a tweet “Mr. Abe made an immense contribution to elevating India-Japan relations to the level of a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Today, whole India mourns with Japan and we stand in solidarity with our Japanese brothers and sisters in this difficult moment” Modi said.

“During my recent visit to Japan, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Abe again and discuss many issues. He was witty and insightful as always. Little did I know that this would be our last meeting. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the Japanese people.” he added.

PM Narendra Modi also announced a one-day national morning on Saturday as a mark of respect for the former world leader.
