“The Vice Minister very graciously mentioned that they have withdrawn the statement that we had expressed concern about and that they fully understand our position on the matter, which is something we really value,” said Tharoor.
Earlier, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had expressed disappointment about Colombia’s condolences of the lives lost in Pakistan due to Operation Sindoor. Tharoor had said that there can be no equivalence between those who defend and dispatch terrorists and those who defend themselves.

“We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism,” Tharoor had said.
He also said that he has proper proof of the terror attack being launched by Pakistan-backed terrorists. The April 22nd attack took 26 lives.
He also added, “We are only exercising our right of self-defence. We’re very happy to talk to Colombia in some detail about the circumstances. Just as Colombia has endured many terror attacks, so have we in India. We have endured a very large number of attacks for almost four decades.”
The Thiruvananthapuram MP also spoke about China’s support for Pakistan. He said that China supplies about 81% of Pakistan’s defence supplies and also spoke about the China-Pakistan economic corridor.
“Defence is a polite word, Pakistani military equipment. Much of it is not for defence but for attack. Our quarrel is with the perpetration of terror against us,” he added.
The MP is in Colombia, as leader of a delegation from India, sent by the Centre to advocate against terrorism.
Shashi Tharoor’s delegation had arrived earlier in Colombia on Thursday. This was after visiting Guyana after having visited Panama. They are currently staying in Bogota. The delegation team shall be interacting along with Ministers, Members of Congress and other important members too.
Tharoor leads one of seven delegations having members from multiple parties. These delegations are tasked with visiting 33 global capitals to spread awareness about terrorism with the international community.
