Last year, Mexico overtook China as the top source of goods imported to the United States, marking the first such occurrence in over 20 years. This shift highlights growing tensions between Washington and Beijing, prompting the US to import more from friendly and nearby countries. According to the US Commerce Department, the value of goods imported from Mexico increased by almost 5% from 2022 to 2023, exceeding $475 billion. Concurrently, Chinese imports declined by 20% to $427 billion.
