Kathmandu: Nepal has urged Russia to refrain from recruiting its citizens into the military, demanding the immediate return of Nepali soldiers serving in the Russian army following the reported deaths of six soldiers.
Known for their bravery, Nepali soldiers, or Gurkhas, traditionally served the British and Indian armies, but no such agreement exists with Russia.
Amid Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, the Nepali government requested the swift repatriation of the deceased soldiers and compensation for their families.
The Russian embassy in Kathmandu has yet to comment on the matter. The appeal highlights concerns over Nepali citizens participating in conflicts without official agreements.
