Pakistani Government Warns Shutdown Of Mobile, Internet Services Amid Power Shortage

New Delhi: The Pakistan National Information Technology Board (NITB) has warned about shutting down mobile and internet services amid power outages in the country.

NITB on Twitter said, โ€œTelecom operators in Pakistan have warned about shutting down mobile and internet services due to long hours of power crisis nationwide, as the interruption is causing issues and hindrance in their operations.

According to Geo News, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned the country that they might face increased load shedding in the coming month of July.

โ€œPakistan could not get the required liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, however, the coalition government was trying to make the deal possible,โ€ the PM added.

He further said The country has been facing a power crisis since it failed to agree on a deal for national gas supply next month. Refinitiv data has shown the country struggles to buy LNG for power generation amid a heatwave that is driving demand.

In a bid to boost energy conservation, the Shebaz Sharif dispenstion has cut working hours for public servants and ordered shopping malls to factories to shut early in various cities, including Karachi.

Pakistan Finance Minister Miftah Ismail in this regard said, โ€œThe government is speaking to Qatar about a new five or 10-year LNG supply deal for three monthly cargoes, as well as an additional cargo under an existing deal.โ€

Earlier last month, Pakistanโ€™s Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, had urged citizens to cut down on tea to keep the economy afloat.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistanis could reduce their tea consumption by โ€œone or two cupsโ€ per day as imports are putting additional financial strain on the government.

New Delhi: Uddhav Thackeray, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, has petitioned the Supreme Court to prohibit Shiv Sena MLAs from partaking in parliamentary sessions because they were โ€œpawns of the BJPโ€ and had defected over him.

โ€œThe delinquent MLAs who have been acting as pawns of the BJP, thereby committing the constitutional sin of defection, ought not to be allowed to perpetuate their sin even for a single day by permitting them to continue as members of the assembly,โ€ Team Thackeray camp said in a petition to the Supreme Court

On Monday of last week, just as the rebel MLAs under leadership of Eknath Shinde commenced their uprising, Team Thackeray asked the Deputy Speaker to expel 16 MLAs, including Mr. Shinde, who has become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP serving as his deputy.

The rebel MLAs then appealed to The Supreme court, arguing that it would be illegitimate to oust them from office.

For Monday, the court summoned a session to examine the disqualification issue.

Mr Thackerayโ€™s lawyer, Kapil Sibal, told the Supreme Court, โ€œSuspend the 16 rebel MLAs against whom disqualification proceedings are pending as an interim measure. Restrain them from participating in any of the house proceedings,โ€ following which the court stated that it will hear the matter on Monday.

The conflict now centers on assuming charge of the Shiv Sena, the organisation Mr. Thackerayโ€™s father Bal Thackeray established.

โ€œThe rebels cannot speak for the Shiv Sena,โ€ according to the former chief minister.

Team Thackeray told the Supreme Court today, โ€œDespite the rebellion carried out by the Eknath Shinde faction, the original Shiv Sena political party remains under the leadership of Uddhav Thackerayโ€ฆwho was elected president of the Shiv Sena way back on 23.01.2018 when the organisational elections of the were conducted and the same was communicated to the Election Commission on 27.02.2018,โ€ now the decision to alight the name of the party to a single unit will be up to the Supreme Court.
