“The Talibani rule is particularly stressful for women as they have been denied their basic human rights, including their right to higher education. It is heartbreaking to see how, while we celebrated our freedom yesterday, the Taliban and religious fundamentalists who support them celebrated the enslavement of the majority in Afghanistan which has taken them into the dark ages,” the statement by Harmony Foundation said.
As the Taliban completes its first year as officially the government of Afghanistan, the Harmony foundation in a statement called the rule a “massive blow to human rights.”
“While our nation celebrated Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the echoing slogans of Har Ghar Tiranga, uniting all Indians in commemorating and paying homage to all our freedom fighters who fought to free us from the brutal clutches of imperial rule, Taliban in Afghanistan celebrated the anniversary of its atrocious rule for over a year now”, the statement by Harmony Foundation said.
“It has been a year since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, and while the fundamentalists approve and rejoice in their rule, the experience for the common man in Afghanistan has not been the same. When the Taliban ultimately took control of the nation in 2021, the world saw one of the most depressing and horrifying sights in Afghanistan”, the statement added.
The statement further said, “There were countless pictures and videos of disorder, anarchy, and lawlessness, as well as heartbreaking images of individuals fleeing the country even latching on to aircraft wheels”.
Referring to the Taliban regime as a humanitarian crisis chairperson of the Foundation, Dr Abraham Mathai said, “The world witnessed such a humanitarian crisis in dismay and despair as countless people were killed or forced to flee as fear of persecution lurked all over the nation. The Taliban’s hardline and autocratic rule is distressing and a nightmare for most of its citizens, especially women. While the common citizens have harshly denounced and criticized the rule of the Taliban in the nation, a few people continue to rejoice in the ultimate rule of the extremist Islamic State.”
“The Talibani rule is particularly stressful for women as they have been denied their basic human rights, including their right to higher education. It is heartbreaking to see how, while we celebrated our freedom yesterday, the Taliban and religious fundamentalists who support them celebrated the enslavement of the majority in Afghanistan which has taken them into the dark ages,” Mathai said.
“Many of India’s freedom fighters fought not only against the imperial rule but also against societal injustices, pushing the fight further to challenge norms and rules that oppressed people. They envisaged an independent India, where their future generations kept their heads held high, working towards bringing forth nationhood. Such are the leaders that break barriers and emancipate people from oppression and inequalities,” the statement added.
The statement further said, “But the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan is a massive blow to human rights where leadership is not about freedom but submission to brutality and subjugation. Women, children, and minorities are especially vulnerable to such a bloodthirsty rule”.
The statement concluded by saying “Thousands of Afghanis have taken refuge in our nation which has provided a safe haven for them, while several hundred thousand have fled to other countries escaping the onslaught of this murderous and anarchic regime of Taliban.”
Describing the Afghani’s condition as enslavement, Dr Abraham Mathai said, “As we in India celebrated our freedom yesterday it is sad that on the same day the common Afghanis commemorated their anniversary of enslavement and darkness.”
