Tesla CEO Elon Musk has left DOGE as people criticise him and the department for poor decisions and actions

Tesla and SpaceX CEO and billionaire Elon Musk announced his resignation. He resigned from his position as Chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As he leaves, he has thanked US President Donald Trump for giving him an “opportunity to reduce wasteful spending”.

Musk has said that DOGE will become a “way of life” in the government and that it will strengthen as time moves forward.

He has left just a day after criticizing Trump for the first ever time for the President’s “big, beautiful” spending bill. Musk said that the bill is increasing budget deficit and that it undermines the DOGE’s work.

He said, “A bill can be big, or it can be beautiful. But I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion.”

Musk was the largest donor for Trump during the 2024 election campaigns. He was prominently spotted in Trump’s pre-poll outings and also stuck to his side when the Republican took office as President.

Musk’s DOGE removed tens of thousands of people in government jobs and services while butting heads with senior government officials.

But by the end of April, Musk had started pulling away after interviews. In these he said DOGE had become a “whipping boy” for discontent with the administration. He had also admitted that he had not achieved all of his goals along with DOGE.

One of USA’s District judges has also ruled that Musk will need to be facing a lawsuit. This was allegedly for the wielding of illegal power as the head of DOGE. Among a number of cases he and DOGE are facing the judges seek to block their access to agency systems. They also are trying to block their access to records that contain vast troves of Americans’ financial and personal information.

His focus has returned back to his businesses as some people have criticised Tesla dealerships. This is as share prices have fallen and SpaceX has had some major setbacks.

A recent setback that SpaceX suffered was the explosion of a Starship over the Indian Ocean on Wednesday. This is the SpaceX’s ninth flight. People showed their outrage and brought criticism for over two hours.

This led Elon Musk to take to X and write, “As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made.”
