SC Seeks Report Regarding CM Biren Singh’s Role In Manipur Violence Amid Alleged Audio Leak

The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) regarding audio clips that allege the involvement of Manipur CM Biren Singh in Manipur violence.

Live Law reported that Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar passed the order and demanded the audio clips for a lab report test while hearing a plea filed by the Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust.

The next hearing in the case will be held in March this year. The petition seeks an independent investigation into the audio tapes.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan has said Truth Labs should examine the audio clips.

The lab certified that the voice in the clips was a 93% match to that of Biren Singh.

The recording occurred in a closed-door meeting where the CM can be heard saying that he would protect the Meitei community from arrest and allow them to steal from the state armoury, Bhushan told the court, reports LiveLaw.

The lawyer also said the Truth Labs report was more credible than any government agency.

The Kuki organisation submitted the lab report after a bench member, including the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, asked it to produce materials to prove the authenticity of the audio clip in November 2024.

On Monday, while hearing the case, the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, representing the state of Manipur, stated that the audio clips would be sent for investigation, and an investigation would be started based on the FIR filed in connection with the matter.
