100 Chinese Soldiers Sneaked Into Uttarakhand, Damaged Bridge At Barahoti: Reports

Dehradun : 100 Chinese soldiers sneaked into Uttarakhand, by crossing borders. After slipping-in they damaged a bridge at Barahoti and left before Indian troops could trace and confront them, said reports. According to PTI this incident is of August 30.

As per reports, the soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) sneaked inside the Indian territory through the Tunjun-La pass. They were accompanied by 55 horses. They allegedly avoided conflict with the Indian soldiers and left before they could be confronted.

The Reports claimed that the PLA Soldiers roamed at Barahoti for about 3 hours. The transgression of Chinese troops was spotted by locals, and then teams from the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police were dispatched to verify the report.

Previously, it was informed by the advisory Board of the Global Counter Terrorism Council that China has built 680 ‘Xiaokang’ along its border with India.

According to The Sentinel’s article, Krishan Varma, a member of the Advisory Board to the Global Counter Terrorism Council said, “China has built around 680 Xiaokang, which they call as ‘well off’ villages on our borders with them, and Bhutan borders. These villages are inhabited by their people who come and live in and impress the local Indian population how well off they are with the Chinese government. These are intelligence operations, security operations from their side. They try to ‘turn people anti-India’. So we are training our police personnel, regarding these attempts and sensitize them on how to counter their moves.”

According to Times Now’s article in Central Sector, the contention between India and China is over 2,000 square km of territory, in eight separate areas. Barahoti lies on the border with China in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand, north of the Nanda Devi National Park.

An ITBP source had then told the Indian Express that, “On both occasions [on July 15 and July 25] about 15-20 Chinese soldiers transgressed into the territory at Barahoti that India and China lay claim upon. The soldiers stayed there for a while and returned.”

Earlier in July this year, an ANI report claimed, “Recently, a platoon (about 35 soldiers) from the PLA was seen operating around the Barahoti area in Uttarakhand. The Chinese were seen doing some activity in this area after a significant breach.”

In order to avoid a Ladakh-like situation in Uttarakhand, the Indian Army has increased deployments in the central sector after heightened Chinese activity was noticed.
