114 Police Personnel Test Positive For Covid-19 In Last 24 Hours In Maharashtra, 1330 Overall

The Mumbai police, in last month, had asked cops over the age of 55 to stay at home while the state fights to control the spread of the deadly virus.

Mumbai| Maharashtra Police has reported 114 new cases of Covid-19 among the force in the last 24 hours, as per the data released on Saturday morning. The total number of cases in the agency has gone up to 1330. The total number of personnel succumbed to the death is at 26, with one fatality reported in the last 24 hours.

1,216 active cases among the police force were reported on Thursday. On Wednesday, 131 new infections were reported, according to ANI, taking the total tally to 2,095.

The Mumbai police, in last month, had asked cops over the age of 55 to stay at home while the state fights to control the spread of the deadly virus. Those over the age of 52 and pre-existing medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension were also given similar instructions.

Police officers, doctors, and paramedical staff, and sanitation workers are said to be at higher risk of infection considering the nature of their work.

In Maharashtra, the state with the highest number of cases across the country, 2,682 new cases were reported with 116 deaths on Friday- highest in a day. The total stands at 62,228 with 2,098 deaths reported due to coronavirus.

The financial capital of the country, Mumbai, has reported highest cases across the country with the overall tally of 36,932 cases and 1,173 deaths so far. On Friday, the state capital recorded 1,447 fresh infections and 38 deaths.

The fourth phase of lockdown is supposed to end at midnight on Sunday. Many relaxations in the movement of citizens and economic activities are expected to be granted in the fifth phase.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has said that relaxations will be provided in large part of the state, Mumbai is very unlikely to see any relaxation in current rules.
