14 dead in UP’s road accident

Barabanki : A horrific road accident took place in the Barabanki district of UP in the early morning hours of Thursday. The double-decker bus that was the victim of the accident has been completely shattered. A truck collided with the bus. No part of the vehicles is left intact. 14 people are reported to have died in this accident.

According to the information received, a Volvo bus and truck collided with each other in Barabanki around 5 am. There is also news of 30 injured in the accident along with 14 deaths.

The accident took place on Mati Road in Deva police station area, about twenty kilometers away from the city. In the accident, a sand truck coming from the wrong side collided with the bus. At that moment a cow came from the front. The double-decker bus was shattered in the accident. The driver fled after the accident. There is information that the truck was going from Delhi to Bahraich.

The injured have been admitted to the Trauma Center in Barabanki. Some of the injured whose condition is more serious are being sent to Lucknow for better treatment. Police reached the spot immediately. The road is being opened by calling the GCB machine and removing the debris.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the death of people in the road accident. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. CM has given instructions to provide proper treatment to those injured in the accident and to provide all possible help and relief to the affected people. Apart from this, instructions have also been issued to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the dependents of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured person.

Lakhimpur : Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday met families of the victims who were killed in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. Earlier in the day, Priyanka had left for Lakhimpur Kheri after being released from detention. Rahul had left for the place from the Lucknow airport in his own vehicle after staging a brief ‘dharna’ on initially being asked to travel in a police vehicle.

Here are the top 10 developments on Wednesday:

1. Priyanka Gandhi was detained on Monday morning from her way to Lakhimpur Kheri and was kept at a guest house in Sitapur. Internet was suspended for 12 hours in Sitapur on Wednesday.

2. Rahul Gandhi started out for Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday and initially was denied permission to go there.

3. Later, Rahul Gandhi and a delegation of the Congress were allowed to travel to Lucknow.

4. As Rahul Gandhi reached Lucknow, UP Police asked him to travel in a police car to Sitapur where his sister Priyanka Gandhi was kept. Rahul Gandhi said he will travel only in his car. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Chhattishgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel are accompanying Rahul Gandhi, apart from Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Randeep Singh Surjewala.

5. At the airport, Punjab and Chhattisgarh Chief Ministers announced ₹50 lakh ex gratia each for the families of deceased in the incident.

6. As Rahul Gandhi was finally allowed to travel in his own car, he travelled to Sitapur and met Priyanka Gandhi at the guest house.

7. Both of them were finally allowed to travel to Lakhimpur Kheri, which is around 46 km from Sitapur and will take somewhere around 1 hour for the Congress leaders to cover. The detention order on Priyanka Gandhi was quashed after two days.

8. The Congress leaders met the family members of the victims who were mowed down allegedly by the car of Union home minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra.

9. An AAP delegation went to Lakhimpur Kheri and met the family of a deceased farmer. AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spoke to the family members over the phone. “We are saddened by the incident. The incident shows the state of lawlessness in UP. We are with you and will help you in fighting the case against the accused persons,” Kejriwal said.

10. Amid opposition demand for Ajay Mishra’s resignation, the minister met Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday in Delhi. It is believed that he briefed the home minister that his son was not involved in the case.
