WATCH: A Lake Formed At Nalda Village As Major Landslide Blocks Flow Of Chenab River

The landslide in Lahaul and Spiti has resulted in the formation of a lake near the Nalda village, the villagers were evacuated

A major landslide occurred near Nalda village in Udaipur tehsil of Lahaul and Spiti on Friday, blocking the flow of the Chenab river in the region and forming a lake.

Only 10 to 15 per cent of the river water is being discharged, which resulted in the formation of a lake near the village. No loss of life or property has been reported due to the incident so far.

The local administration, did a helicopter survey to gauge the situation and has evacuated people from nearby villages as a precautionary measure. An NDRF team has also been deployed. The village is located more than 34 km from district headquarters Keylong.

This incident comes days after 15 people were killed due to a landslide on National Highway 5 in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur. On Thursday, Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur told the state Assembly that thirteen people have been rescued so far, while 16 people are still missing.
