The 24-year-old thief was arrested in Ludhiana along with his accomplice, for allegedly stealing a motorbike and mobile phone.
Ludhiana| As many as seventeen cops and a judge were forced to go under’ quarantine in Ludhiana on Thursday, two days after a thief they arrested turned out to be COVID-19 positive.
A 24-year-old man, a resident of Ganesh Nagar in Janakpuri, Ludhiana was caught with a stolen motorcycle during police patrol, following which he was sent to jail and presented before a court.
The vehicle-lifter was arrested along with his accomplice, for allegedly stealing a motorbike and mobile phone. An FIR was registered against under section 379-B (snatching) of IPC at Focal Point police station on April 6.
The station house officer (SHO) of the local Focal Point police station is among those quarantined after the vehicle lifter was caught and produced in a court on April 5. He was put in jail for a day at the Jeevan Nagar police post.
Two local residents who had assisted the police in arresting the man and 11 of the family members of the thief have also been quarantined in the Ludhiana’s Ganesh Nagar locality.

On April 6, the duty magistrate found Sehgal had a fever and cough and asked the police to put both the accused through a medical examination before sending them to judicial custody.
However, his accomplice had escaped before his samples could be taken for testing for the virus.
The source of infection has been traced yet. The man had travelled to Jaipur, as per the health department but police are yet to probe the matter.
The duty magistrate JMIC Monika Chauhan has also been advised self-quarantine. It was in her court where the two accused were produced on April 6.
DCP Akhil Chaudhary said the entire police station and chowki had been sanitised and the staff members who came in contact with the infected thieves have been put under quarantine.
